Bi-Partisan System: A Crock
4 May 1998
Through all of my thinking life I have viewed this portion of our political
system with disgust. I'm talking about our bipartisan election system. I,
personally, feel that when someone goes out to the poles to vote on a political
race, that person should research ALL of the candidates. They should use that
research to determine who the best candidate would be for their present life
situation. Then as a final step they should cast their vote for that person.
But, that's just my wacky idea.
Instead of researching, the peoples of our country simply listen. They listen to
the media, as well as, their family, their friends, and strangers, who all got
their information from the biased media. Then, worst of all, people will go to
the poles and cast their important vote for the candidate that had the best
commercials on television, or possibly they will use the political parties as a
determining factor. What makes more sense than voting for the same political
party that your parents liked, simply because that's the way that it would be
expected of you to vote? I mean, who cares about the issues? Who cares about the
standings of the political candidate on the different topics? Who cares about
the advantages and disadvantages? Who cares about the welfare of the country?
Who cares about the national deficit and American economics? Who cares about
laws, representation, justice, or foreign relations. Apparently the American
public Doesn't.
I've Never had much political influence from indirect sources, including my
parents. You could say that they don't really pay attention to the whole
political scene. But, at least they have respect enough for our country to NOT
VOTE. Now, don't get me wrong here, I'm not trying to say: "Don't vote!". What
I'm trying to say is: "Don't vote if you haven't a clue!". Don't just go to the
poles and vote SIMPLY BECAUSE, "It's your RIGHT to vote", or so you've been
told.
I implore you to vote, when Election Day roles around again, only if you know
that you have made a choice WORTHY of that vote. Voting for a political
candidate, especially in and election so important as the one for the presidency
of these great United States of America, is nothing to be taken lightly. I
refuse to take a stand on any issue, in any election, until I have the time to
decide the best option or candidate for my well-being and the well-being of
those I care for. But that's just my WACKY idea.
