Valentine's Day? What's this? The Big Group of People Who Decide What Holidays
Go Where (TBGPWDWHGW) created this holiday for one primary reason, and not to
sell Hallmark cards, that was just a side effect. No, their real reason for this
day was so that they could laugh at me. It’s a sad day for all of us single
folk. Though, I have to say, I got off pretty easy this year. I got through half
of the day, yesterday, without even realizing that it WAS Valentine's Day.
I was reminded on my way to work. I had to stop at the local mega-mart to get
some money orders to pay for the items that I had recently 'won' on Ebay. In the
store, I had to walk past the greeting cards to reach the customer service desk.
I immediately noticed that something was amiss. Normally, no one is at the
greeting card display. Instead, there were six men of varying ages clustered
around one small portion of the display. I was immediately reminded what day it
was. At the same time I was reminded that I had no one to buy a nice card for,
and that I had no one who would remind me to shave. I decided to pick up a comb
for my new beard before continuing my journey to the front desk.
Just after I arrived at the office, both of my co-workers left early to be with
their respective valentines. At first I was disappointed, but I soon realized
that with the office to myself, I was free to mix a liberal amount of beard
combing and searching the Web for freeware games in with my work.
It wasn't my worst Valentine's Day, but it could have been better. Maybe next
year I'll have someone to share it with. Any volunteers?
